Into January...

The first semester has flown by!  The second quarter officially ends on January 14th, and report cards will be going home shortly thereafter.  Students, remember that in my class the beginning of a quarter means that everyone begins fresh with a 100%.  Take this opportunity to make this semester the most productive and successful yet by turning in all of your homework on time!

Here is a glimpse of the going's on in each of my classes for the next few weeks:

7th Grade Pre-Algebra
We are halfway through a unit about proportions and conversions.  Students have made themselves flash cards with important conversion factors in the US Customary system.  They can expect quizzes on these conversion factors frequently before the next test, as it is imperative that they memorize this information.  The students seem to be enjoying working with proportions, and they are catching on quickly!

8th Grade Algebra
The 8th grade algebra students are nearly percentage masters.  We will soon be moving into an Algebra unit on proportions.  My goal this semester is to really focus in on their individual learning styles so as to help them feel more confident about their math abilities. This means that the students can expect more group-related and hands-on activities.

8th Grade Algebra 1
I am excited to announce that our graphing calculator project was fully funded!  We now have eight brand new Casio graphing calculators, which are just in time for our present unit.  We are currently learning how to solve systems of equations and systems of inequalities.  I am looking forward to introducing the students to the technology that is now available to us.

Parents, please feel free to contact me anytime you have questions, comments, or concerns regarding your student or their learning.  The best education results from support both at school and at home.
