Our Algebra 1 class is in desperate need of graphing calculators for the upcoming semester...but they are Expensive! I have posted a project on DonorsChoose.org which allows individuals to donate money to help us purchase a set of calculators. Donate if you can and help us pass the word along!

STUGO Holiday Happenings
Student government, A.K.A. STUGO, is excited about the holiday season and the end of the first semester! They are sponsoring a number of activities on Liberty's campus during the next couple of weeks...
TOY DRIVE
STUGO will be holding a toy drive starting December 6th and ending the 13th. We will be donating the toys to a nearby church, who will be taking them to an orphanage in Mexico. Please bring new or lightly used toys and collect them in your classrooms or drop them off in Miss Vogt's room.

HOT COCOA
Warm up with a cup of hot cocoa, on sale every morning before school in front of the kindergarten playground.
Cup of Hot Cocoa -- $1
Marshmallows -- 25¢
Whipped Cream -- 25¢
HOLIDAY GRAMS
STUGO members will be selling Holiday Grams before school at the Hot Cocoa stand. Tell a friend how special they are by sending them a holiday greeting! Holiday Grams are only $1, and they come with a small gift. STUGO will be delivering Holiday Grams on Friday, December 17th.
DOOR DECORATING CONTEST
Show your holiday spirit by decorating you classroom door! STUGO members will be looking for the most creative and festive door next Thursday, December 16th. The winning class will receive a free dress-down day, STUGO’s treat!
Happy Holidays!

"How do I improve my grade?"
Progress reports go home on Monday, November 29th. They will need to be signed and returned by Wednesday, December 1st. I have had a handful of students ask me how they can improve their grades. Here are a few tips:
Turn in Homework On-Time - This is one of biggest things you can do to improve your grade in my class. Each homework assignment counts for 10 points. Considering that I give homework almost every night, that adds up to 40 points a week! Remember, as well, that homework can be turned in ONE day late for half credit.
Do Your Bellwork - Although one point a day may not seem like much, it adds up! Being careful to keep track of your bellwork and finish it completely each day is an important part of maintaining your grade.
Take Advantage of Retakes - I allow students one retake per test. It is important that students get a review packet from me AND complete it before coming in to retake a test. I average the retake score with the original score. Every point counts!
I am so proud of my students' motivation to better themselves by doing well in school. Keep up the good work Liberty Middle Schoolers!

November News
Welcome to my blog! I will be posting new information every month. Please visit to read about what the middle school math students at Liberty will be learning throughout the month.
As October takes its exit and November enters the scene, the 7th and 8th grade math classes are heading into increasingly rigorous new topics. Here is a look at what the middle school students will be learning in the weeks to come.
7th Grade Pre-Algebra
The Pre-Algebra class is halfway through a unit on fractions. They are developing their skills in manipulating fractions in order to solve problems. We will soon be incorporating these skills into the previous unit's concepts of solving equations. Near the middle of November we will begin solving multi-step equations, involving whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
8th Grade Algebra
The 8th grade Algebra class has just finished up a unit on functions, in which they graphed functions, identified functions, and wrote/evaluated function rules. The is an important foundation for the rest of algebra. We are now entering into the much-anticipated topic of solving multi-step equations. This new unit will dive deeply into isolating and solving for variables by applying various mathematical properties.
8th Grade Algebra 1
The Algebra 1 class just completed their third unit, which focused on solving algebraic equations and inequalities. We are now beginning to graph and write linear equations by identifying slopes and intercepts. This unit will complete the second quarter, as the Algebra Qualifying Test (AQT) midterm is currently scheduled for the 15th and 16th of December.
Other news...
STUGO members did an outstanding job facilitating spirit week. They showed responsibility and energy which rubbed off on their peers. All of Liberty's student body did an excellent job showing school pride by participating in Crazy Hair Day, Nerd Day, and Twin Day, as well as the Tower Power competition. A big applause to you all!
Please feel free to contact me anytime you have questions, comments, or concerns. Have a blessed Fall season!
