November News

Welcome to my blog! I will be posting new information every month.  Please visit to read about what the middle school math students at Liberty will be learning throughout the month.

As October takes its exit and November enters the scene, the 7th and 8th grade math classes are heading into increasingly rigorous new topics.  Here is a look at what the middle school students will be learning in the weeks to come.

7th Grade Pre-Algebra
The Pre-Algebra class is halfway through a unit on fractions.  They are developing their skills in manipulating fractions in order to solve problems.  We will soon be incorporating these skills into the previous unit's concepts of solving equations.  Near the middle of November we will begin solving multi-step equations, involving whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

8th Grade Algebra
The 8th grade Algebra class has just finished up a unit on functions, in which they graphed functions, identified functions, and wrote/evaluated function rules.  The is an important foundation for the rest of algebra.  We are now entering into the much-anticipated topic of solving multi-step equations.  This new unit will dive deeply into isolating and solving for variables by applying various mathematical properties.

8th Grade Algebra 1
The Algebra 1 class just completed their third unit, which focused on solving algebraic equations and inequalities.  We are now beginning to graph and write linear equations by identifying slopes and intercepts.  This unit will complete the second quarter, as the Algebra Qualifying Test (AQT) midterm is currently scheduled for the 15th and 16th of December.

Other news...
STUGO members did an outstanding job facilitating spirit week.  They showed responsibility and energy which rubbed off on their peers.  All of Liberty's student body did an excellent job showing school pride by participating in Crazy Hair Day, Nerd Day, and Twin Day, as well as the Tower Power competition.  A big applause to you all!

Please feel free to contact me anytime you have questions, comments, or concerns.  Have a blessed Fall season!
