Summer's Here!

It has been a pleasure working with the 7th and 8th grade students this year.  I have enjoyed watching them learn and grow throughout the year, and I am proud of their accomplishments!

A big congratulations to those students who made it through Algebra 1.  These students put in a lot of time and energy this year, and it will pay off in high school.

Students, remember to keep your mind moving this summer. Read, practice your math facts, look up educational games online....here are a few good websites to get you started:

2nd Semester Reminders

It's hard to believe that the school year is already halfway over!  This semester is full of field trips, testing, and increased responsibility.  Here are a few reminders to help you be successful:

Come to class prepared every day!
**The middle school students are doing a great job of turning in their math homework on time.  Keep it up!
**Math work must be done in pencil.  If you need to purchase a box of pencils to keep at your house, please do so.

Eligibility for the 3rd Quarter field trip requires:
**A passing a grade in all classes
**Less than 9 initials on third quarter accountability cards

Gum is not allowed at school!
**Be a good role model for the younger students at Liberty by following this rule.

Keep asking for help and retaking tests!
**All of your teachers are here to help you.  Get help when you need it and fix those failing test scores!

7th Grade Pre-Algebra
We are beginning a unit on number sense, where students will build on their knowledge of integers, order of operations, the real number system, and evaluating expressions.

Math 8
The eighth grade students will be working through a short unit about complex order of operations, the real number system, and evaluating complex expressions.

Algebra 1
Our first unit will cover real numbers, function notation, and matrices.

Dates to Remember:

Wrapping It Up

Only eight more days of school! (Make that seven for you 8th graders!)  That said, I want to encourage you, middle school students, to keep working hard.  If you know that you have finished strong and worked hard up to the end, it will make the last day of school even more rewarding.  You don't stop running a race just because you can see the finish line! If anything you run even faster!

Here are a few final updates:

7th Grade
The 7th graders just took their math placement test.  The results of this test will be used to determine which 8th grade math class will be the best fit for them next year.  I will also be looking at each student's overall performance in math this year and their 7th grade AIMS scores.  This will give the middle school teachers a better idea of who will be successful in Algebra 1 and who would benefit from 8th grade Algebra.

8th Grade
The 8th graders have one more field trip coming up this Friday, May 20th....Wet 'n Wild!  I, personally, have truly been enjoying our outings together.  We have a fantastic group of 8th graders this year! They will be missed.

A special note to the Algebra 1 class....
Your AQT results came in on Friday, as expected.  I would like to give a big round of applause to those of you who passed the AQT and earned admittance into Geometry next year!  GREAT JOB!!!!!

To the rest of you, I know how hard some of you worked this year.  Please do not feel discouraged if you did not pass the AQT.  Your time spent in Algebra 1 this year will greatly benefit you next year.  I would not be surprised if some of you were placed in Honors Algebra.  You have built an excellent foundation to be successful in your high school math classes.

Sometimes, no matter how hard we work, life does not end up the way we hoped it would.  That does not mean that our efforts were in vain.  Every minute you spend fighting to learn and succeed is a minute that builds integrity and resilience and stamina.  These character traits are invaluable, and they are what truly matter throughout our lives.  Use this experience to fuel your desire to work even harder next year.  I know I will.

To all of Liberty's middle schoolers---Have a fun, safe summer!

Ready to Bowl?

I am pleased to announce that our next middle school field trip will include pins, free food, glamorous shoes...oh, and a bowling ball!  The middle school students of Liberty have voted and "Bowling" was the number one choice.  As with the last field trip, certain eligibility requirements will be put into place.  They are as follows, for the weeks of 3/28-4/15:

  • Perfect attendance
  • No behavior referrals
  • All homework completed and turned-in

More details will be sent home on Monday, March 28th.

The AIMS are fast approaching and we want to reward the students for the hard work they will put in during the next three weeks, both preparing and testing.  Rollero was a great time! I am looking forward to yet another adventure.
